About the Foundation

The Boerne Public Library Library Foundation,a 501 (c) 3 organization, supports the library and the literacy needs of the Boerne community.  In 1993,the rise of technology, internet access and a growing population, a group of citizens created the foundation to provide private funds for the library.  Working with the City, this group began fundraising for library equipment needs, programs and services that were beyond the city’s budget.  Over the past 25 years, the foundation has raised funds and awareness for our library – our community hub. Today, the Boerne Public Library Foundation provides funding for capital needs, special events, literacy programs, children’s and teen activities, oral history, and cultural and educational projects.  Funds for these projects and programs are generated by individual donations, gifts, bequests, grants and other forms of public and private assistance.

In 2016, the foundation began an outreach initiative to help meet the literacy needs in our community.  Since the inception of Boerne Reads, over 15,000 books have been distributed to local crisis facilities and 250 backpacks have been distributed.  These backpacks include a copy of Oh The Places You Will Go and a brochure about the library’s programs and services.  As Boerne grows so does the needs for literacy support out in the community.  The foundation continues to add to the list of partners for Boerne Reads with the help of our board members and volunteers.
