Access to books is the foundation of Boerne Reads. Creating opportunities for children to get age appropriate, interesting books helps develop a love of reading. Because so many of our economically disadvantaged children don’t have the ability to get to the library or don’t have the money to buy books, we provide our partners with books. Because parents are already receiving a service from one of our partners, making books available for free demonstrates that reading is a part of a healthy life.
Since the beginning of 2016, we have collected and distributed over 20,000 books in our community. Over 2000 children have received new books as gifts, helping start or add to a home library. We are able to provide books in English and Spanish to help bridge the language barrier for so many of the children living in poverty.
